Undergraduate Placement Exams

All incoming freshmen and eligible transfer students are required to take a placement exam in mathematics and English. The results of these tests determine appropriate course placement and assist us in developing plans for your academic support.

Spring 2012 Placement Exams are offered in December and January.
Fall 2012 Placement exams are held all summer and will be posted in April.

All students are encouraged to take the exam as soon as possible.

Placement exams are not pass-fail tests, and you do not need to study for them since they are designed to measure your current knowledge and abilities. However, if you wish to prepare for the test, you may visit www.act.org/compass/sample.

Even though the test is untimed, please allow at least two hours to complete it. The exam will stop on its own once it has determined the appropriate placement for you based on your answers. You must complete the test to receive a score. After sitting for the exam, you will work with an advisor to make your schedule. Please plan to be on campus for 3-4 hours.

Special needs: If you have any documented special testing needs, contact the disability services coordinator prior to taking the exam at 516-686-7636.

If you have any questions please contact 516-686-7444.
