| Placement Exams
All incoming freshmen and eligible transfer students are required to take a placement exam in mathematics and English. The results of these tests determine appropriate course placement and assist us in developing plans for your academic support. Placement Exams are offered: Fridays from May 29-June 26 at 10am Tuesday June 30 at 9:00am Tuesday July 7 at 9:00am and 1pm Tuesdays July 14-August 25 at 9:00am All May/June dates are full for students who plan to take the exam on the Old Westbury campus. Please register for a July/August exam. Placement exams are not pass-fail tests, and you do not need to study for them since they are designed to measure your current knowledge and abilities. However, if you wish to prepare for the test, you may visit www.act.org/compass/sample. Even though the test is untimed, please allow at least two hours to complete it. The exam will stop on its own once it has determined the appropriate placement for you based on your answers. You must complete the test to receive a score. After sitting for the exam, you will work with an advisor to make your schedule. Please plan to be on campus for 3-4 hours. Exceptions: If you have been admitted into the combined Bachelor of Science in life science/Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (B.S./D.O.) program you are not required to take the placement test. If you have been admitted to the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), the HEOP department will schedule a day and time for you to take the exam. Special needs: If you have any documented special testing needs, contact the disability services coordinator at 516-686-7636. If you have any questions please contact 516-686-7444.
